Margaret has ten years of experience in the art world and brings a background in research and connoisseurship to Margaret Smith Fine Art. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Art History and French, with Highest Distinction, from the University of Virginia and a Master of Arts in Fine and Decorative Art, with Distinction, from Sotheby’s Institute, London. Margaret spent five years at Sotheby’s New York, where she was the Cataloguer in the 19th Century European Paintings department. Following her time at Sotheby’s, Margaret was with C2 Art Advisors, a Houston, Texas-based art advisory and appraisal firm, where she worked with private, corporate, and hospitality clients to acquire and sell investment-level art and conduct appraisals. Margaret is an Accredited Member of the Appraisers Association of America and is compliant with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). She serves on the University of Virginia Arts Council and the Steering Committee for the Menil Contemporaries at The Menil Collection, Houston.
